Lakhimpur Kheri court denied bail to Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair in a case filed for ‘promoting enmity.’
In Kheri, the FIR against Zubair was registered at the Mohammadi police station on September 18, 2021, for a tweet he had posted earlier in May. In the tweet, Zubair had tagged the Noida police and UP DGP, flagging concerns about ‘misleading’ news shown by a channel. He had demanded action against the same. The Kheri bail denial comes a day after a Delhi court granted bail to Zubair in a similar case related and observed that “the voice of dissent is necessary for a healthy democracy”. Read full story.

Several parents said that after the first day’s fiasco about exam centres, they were anxious throughout the night and kept checking email to see whether further changes had happened. Chief Justice N V Ramana expressed concern over diminishing space for opposition in legislative bodies.
In his address to the Rajasthan assembly, Justice Ramana said strong, vibrant and active opposition helps to improve governance and corrects the functioning of the government, and political opposition should not translate into hostility which the country is witnessing now. IndiGo Sharjah-Hyderabad flight diverted to Pakistan’s Karachi after the pilot reported a technical defect.
The aircraft is being examined at the airport. The airline is planning to send another aircraft to Karachi to fly the passengers to Hyderabad. This is the second Indian airline to make a landing in Karachi in the last 2 weeks. Read full story.
